The details

A Beaklet is a refillable writing instrument. Ink flows from the converter through the feed to the nib, then onto your page.

Box contents

The story

Olive branches move above old stone. The light is new; the marks beneath it have been here a while. A place can hold more than one moment at once.

Athens pairs a pale, stone-toned cap with an olive barrel and Beaklet’s beak-shaped clip. Its story begins with looking at familiar things a little more closely.

Use it for a memory, a family story, a question in the margin. Sometimes the next idea starts with asking what came before.

The inspiration

The rock had a before.

In Dandeli, a historian from Athens examines a rock. The Hornbill is sitting on it. These seem like perfectly reasonable uses for the same object.

Then the historian notices weathering, roots and old marks. A surface becomes a record.

The Hornbill learns that looking back can reveal something new.

Hand-drawn map of Athens The ParthenonDedicated to Athena in 438 BC. It still crowns the rock above the city. The olive and the tridentAthena offered an olive tree, Poseidon a salt spring. The city chose the olive, and her name. Temple of Olympian ZeusOnly 15 of its 104 columns still stand. It took more than 600 years to finish. The forgeHephaestus, god of the forge, has one of the best preserved Greek temples, above the Ancient Agora. Owl of AthenaThe owl stood for wisdom and was stamped on the city’s silver coins.

A little help

Get to know your Beaklet.

How does a Beaklet write?

A Beaklet is a refillable writing instrument. Ink flows from the converter through the feed to the nib, then onto your page.

Which nib should I choose?

Every Beaklet comes with a choice of two nib grades: Fine (F) and Extra Fine (EF). A finer nib makes a narrower line; a broader nib leaves a wider one. Your handwriting, paper and ink also affect how the line looks.

If you are unsure, tell us how you like to write. We will help you understand the available options.

What ink should I use?

Use ink made for refillable writing instruments with a nib and feed. Other inks can clog the feed and interrupt the flow.

When changing ink colours, clean the Beaklet first so the old ink does not mix with the new one.

Can I use cartridges?

Please check the compatible cartridge format listed for your edition. Cartridges and converters need to fit the Beaklet correctly. If you are unsure, ask us before choosing a refill.
